Activities of the Club 2021-22

In compliance to the Orders of the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Himachal Pradesh, a Road Safety Club was constituted in the Government College, Theog on 18.12.2021. The main aim for the formation of the Club was to enhance the awareness about various issues of road safety among students so as to minimize accidents and loss of life on account of road accidents. Also, the students who learn about various aspects of road safety are expected to make others aware about the importance of road safety so that the message can be spread in all walks of life. In this way everybody will make road safety and its various rules a way of life.

To make the Club vibrant and a source of information and knowledge for students, various aspects of road safety were deliberated at length among staff members and it was decided that various activities would be performed at the level of students so that they could learn about road safety through an interactive and participative process. As a first step, thirty students from among NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and Range & Rovers were selected as members of the Road Safety Club. For close coordination among student members and staff members of Road Safety Club, a Whatsapp Group was also formed.

In line with the important task to sensitize the students on issues concerning road safety, the following activities were organized in the College on 23.12.2021:

  • Quiz Competition on signs and symbols for Road Safety
  • Poster making Competition on Road Safety
  • Powerpoint Presentation / Lecture on Road Safety was delivered
  • Road Safety Pledge was taken by the students

During the course of above activities, it was felt that such competitions need to be performed on regular basis so that the knowledge about the importance of road safety is inculcated in students through regular interactions on this important issue. Also, it was decided that banners and sign boards covering various aspects of road safety need to be displayed so that students can easily associate themselves with lessons on road safety in their day today life. An important decision taken was to set up a mini awareness park on road safety within the College campus which could act a source of information on various issues concerning road safety for students. The space for establishing the Park within the College campus was finalized on 06.01.2022.

As per the experience gained during the conduct of activities on road safety, flex banners, sign boards, placards with sign and symbols on road safety and standee with road safety rules were got printed and displayed in the Mini Awareness Park.

Road Safety Week was celebrated in the College from 21.02.2022 to 28.02.2022, During the course of the above, rallies were organized within the campus and in the adjoining areaswherein college students raised slogans on the importance of road safety to make other students in the College and people of adjoining area aware about strict conformance to road safety rules. As a repeat exercise, following road safety related activities were conducted among students of the College on 21.02.2022:

  • Essay writing competition
  • Declamation contest
  • Quiz Competition
  • Poster making competition

In addition to the above activities, a lecture by resource person was organized wherein an interactive session was conducted and various queries raised by students regarding various aspects of road safety rules were answered and importance of road safety explained to them in detail. To motivate the students on observing road safety rules, prizes were also distributed to winners of the various competitions on Road safety.
